Why The Career Center?

Once you embark on the journey if becoming a college graduate, you start to get involved in things that are known as resume builders. College is filled with leadership opportunities, the only thin is that you must go find them because they are not going to just fall in your lap. Most colleges/universities have what is known as a career center. This is your pit stop to success, a place where you can get advise and answers on any college campus.

Resumes, one of the biggest things college students work on, especially those who will be graduating soon. The career center helps you organize your resume and makes it look presentable. The career center at UNCP ha one solid goal, to make sure that you have the best chance o employment during and after college. Their job in the career center is to make sure you get a job. Your resume is your ticket into the door, it will either make you or break you. What you might not know is that more employers are beginning to look at social media platforms a lot more.

Why is social media so important? Social media tells you a lot about a person, the true person that will be representing their organizations. That is why it is important to make sure that you be aware of what you are sharing with the world because it might be what will hold you back from employment.

What if I have an alias name on my twitter account? That does not make a difference, there are ways of linking a persons twitter account with a person even if the names don’t match. There are other ways to determine twitter accounts and most of the time people link their twitter account with other accounts that are in their name. Remember that everything is connected, some connections are closer than others.

What is the best social network to use to impress employers? The best social network to use in LinkedIn LinkedIn the number one professional network in the world. LinkedIn is a highly indexed website meaning that it is one of the websites to pop up if your name is placed in a search engine (google, yahoo, bing, etc.). Are you on LinkedIn? If you’re not it’s time to think about increasing your marketability.

Have you ever wanted to know your flaws when you are being interviewed? At the career center, you can ask for a mock interview and your interview will be recorded. In that videotape you will be able to see some of the things that you do wrong and might no realize. It is better to show you, than to tell you.

For those individuals who don’t really know what they want to do yet and what major they want to partake in, go to major madness. Major Madness is a session hosted by the career center to increase your understanding about majors that you might be unclear on.

If you don’t go by the career center, you are really putting yourself in an disadvantage for your future endeavors. Continue to do what needs to be done to succeed in this economy.
